Meet Emily
Ms. Emily Sullivan was hired in May of 2017 as an instructor and administrative assistant, and remains after the shutdown, a traveling instructor and a volunteer development director.
In 2017, Awakening Minds Art was introduced to Emily at the perfect time in her life. "I was teaching and waiting tables and feeling overwhelmingly unappreciated, unchallenged, and as if no one around me cared about art. It didn't take me long to realize that AMA was dream-job material."
Since then, Emily has worked to become a positive force behind the scenes with tasks like grant writing, data collection, and operations & fundraising development. This has proven to be truly rewarding for Emily.
After the pandemic hit and we closed our doors, Emily felt devastated. "I felt like I was grieving a loved one, but I knew if I could, I'd fight to bring it all back! When that opportunity ended up on the table, there was never a question that I'd be back."
WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?
"Because I still feel appreciated and challenged, and I can see the benefits of art everyday that I get a chance to work with students!"
"I love the relationships that I've gained with students and other community organizations. I keep holding on, in part, because I'm just really looking forward to seeing my nursing home students again! I can't wait to see their smiles--and hopefully be able to give lots of hugs, too!"
